Stacey Wells is the winner of the National Matthew Holt Redmond Memorial Scholarship for the 2020 - 2021 school year.  She is a young, black, widowed mother and nurse with her associates degree. She will complete her bachelor's degree in nursing in Fall 2021.

Stacy wrote, "All the challenges and sacrifices are apart of the process of becoming a well-rounded nurse for my future patients. Earning the Matthew Holt Redmond Memorial Scholarship would be a testament to my family and most importantly to my son of what hard work and determination looks like, in spite of the loss of a loved one."

This scholarship celebrates black excellence in times of immense tragedy and supports widows and widowers as they restart their lives and rebuild financial stability for generations to come.

The National Matthew Holt Redmond Memorial scholarship was created in memory of the late husband of the Young, Black & Widowed founder, Azurae Johnson Redmond. Matthew passed away from lung cancer at the young age of 32 in 2017.

Young, Black & Widowed Inc.® is a progressive 501(c)3 nonprofit, plus podcast, which connects Millennial & Generation Z widow(er)s of color to a daily one-on-one peer support line, grief resources, scholarships and professionals within their home cities, across the United States.
